A Right Royal Knees-Up!

I'm still buzzing with wedding spirit! The wedding and all that went with it was such a beautiful thing to watch and even though I wasn't actually there, the atmopshere in our house alone was enough to bring a smile to anyone's face!
Here are a few photos from the day. I had planned to take more but I was too busy watching the occasion unfold!

Flying the flag from our house

One cannot have a spread without one's fondant fancies you know!

Emerging from Westminster Abbey newly married

A toast of champagne for the happy couple!

I thought it was so wonderful how happy both William and Catherine looked. She was so composed; only her shaking hand clutching her father's gave any nerves she carried away. And her dress! Absolutely stunning!! I always suspected she would have long lace sleeves but other than that, I was happy to be surprised by her choice without too much speculation. She was beautiful, elegant and poised. The perfect future queen.
William and Harry both looked fabulous and very handsome.
I love the title the Queen has given the couple. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge has a lovely ring to it.

The best of luck to them, I say! I do whinge and moan about this country sometimes (quite often actually) but an event like this really brings it home how lucky we are as a nation to have the monarchy-it's what makes us who we are.

I'll leave you all with the above video. A wonderfully happy moment.

Decoupage Dresser

Finally I'm getting around to posting the photos of my newly-decorated dresser! The varnish has completely dried now so I've been able to move my bits and pieces back onto it.

This was such an easy project to do, especially for someone like me who is new to decoupage. It was literally a collage technique which you then finish off with varnish. I love it!

Materials:
Acrylic Satin Varnish
Fast-tack PVA glue
Printed images

I used 4 or 5 coats of varnish to give the whole thing a really nice shine. The varnish is important to make the technique look less like collage and more like the pattern is almost part of the wood.

All of the images I used were found from http://graphicsfairy.blogspot.com/ apart from the Victorian shoes on the bottom drawer which I scanned from one of my own books. All background textures and other images are from the above website. The Graphics Fairy is a fabulous place to visit for free, high-quality vintage images and it is updated daily.

I'm really pleased with the outcome, considering it was a bit of an experiment but I love the technique! So much easier than sanding down and painting the dresser and prettier too!

Shameless Layering=Vintage Decoupage!

I've been planning to revamp my chest of drawers. It's just a plain wooden 3-drawer unit and I'm fed up with it-I have the DIY itch! So I've been playing around with some ideas that I can decoupage onto the drawers. I've been shamelessly layering vintage images together using trusty Photoshop to create the above patterns. The images have all come from a fabulous vintage clip art site: http://www.graphicsfairy.blogspot.com/

I haven't quite decided which patterns I will use yet. I only need 3! I quite like the butterflies, perfume bottles and chairs at the moment, but no definite decisions! I'll post photos when I actually get around to the revamp.
